When the stakes are high, your hiring model matters.

Mobilisation (retained search) flips the equation. You invest upfront, giving your search partner the mandate and resources to map the market, engage passive candidates, and rigorously assess cultural fit. The result? Better hires, fewer fall-offs, and faster integration.

In my experience over past 20 years, contingency works for standard roles. But for senior, specialised, or business-critical hires, mobilisation delivers exponentially better outcomes. It’s the difference between hiring the best applicant and hiring the best available talent.

I’ll repeat my ongoing stance on talent: if your hiring decisions are being driven by procurement and reduced to a conversation about fees, then you will ultimately get what you paid for. In the short term, yes, you may see a temporary improvement on the bottom line. But in the long term, I assure you, you will lose hands down and then believe it is your “recruitment firm” that is not thorough enough.

Everyone talks about talent shortages. I disagree. None of our clients who’ve chosen to be see talent for where it will take their business; and acknowledge that we’re no longer operating in the early 2000s are NOT experiencing a talent shortage. They’ve embraced a modern, strategic approach to hiring, and we consistently find exactly what they need, time and time again.

What’s often overlooked is the unseen value in a true search partnership. Mobilisation isn’t just about filling a role; it’s about understanding your business and culture and aligning with your strategy. It’s about building a talent strategy that aligns with your growth.

If you’re facing a high-stakes hire, message me here or email jayson@outsidecapital.co.za – I can walk you through the mobilisation model we use to secure top-tier candidates.
