Case studies came out on top, pointing to a shift toward more evidence-based assessments that simulate real-world conditions – the messy, ambiguous environments in which senior leaders actually operate.

Why It Matters

At senior level, success is rarely about technical skill alone. It’s about:

  • Judgment – making the right calls when the data is incomplete.
  • Stakeholder management – influencing without authority and aligning conflicting priorities.
  • Resilience – performing under pressure without losing clarity or composure.
  • Cultural fit – knowing when to challenge, when to adapt, and when to lead from behind.

These qualities don’t always show up in a 60-minute behavioural interview.
